As someone who enjoys reading books over and over, I strongly remember my own experiences in this regard, and felt that it would go some way to overcoming some of the difficulties in generating a love of reading that come from only being exposed to short passages on a variety of different subjects.\r\nYour donation has made this possible with The Hobbit and done so in remarkable ways. We have gone through the experience of discovering a novel which the author planned the presentation of meticulously, and which gave us the opportunity of experiencing the unparalleled authenticity of. From examining the cover, to analyzing the illustrations, to thinking about how other artists envisioned Tolkien's creations, my students have thoroughly embraced the experience, and many grew to be fond fans of the novel.\r\nMoreover, your generosity has made this possible at and age, and for a demographic of students that would otherwise have never had the opportunity. They truly enjoyed discovering their names in the Ex Libris inscriptions, and have treated the books with a care and affection that I never could have anticipated. We still have more to go in our Hobbit Novel experience at Warren County Middle School, but I can say we have already surpassed my hopes and expectations.","fullyFundedDate":1770306713726,"projectUrl":"project/the-hobbit-novel-study/10073731/","projectTitle":"The Hobbit Novel Study","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Gunn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6234979"},{"teacherId":10420237,"projectId":10064546,"letterContent":"Our recent novel study has had a powerful and positive impact on my students, both academically and behaviorally. Providing each student with their own copy of the book, along with a personal journal, has created a strong sense of ownership over their learning. Students take pride in their materials, and this ownership has directly increased their engagement during reading and discussion.\r\n\r\nIn addition, incorporating art supplies into our daily work has allowed students to interact with the text in a more meaningful and creative way. Whether they are annotating, illustrating, or organizing their thinking, students are actively breaking down the story as we read rather than passively moving through it. This hands-on approach has made the learning process more accessible and enjoyable for a wide range of learners.\r\n\r\nPerhaps most noticeably, this structure has significantly reduced our reliance on technology. By shifting to physical books and journals, students are more focused, present, and invested in their work. As a result, classroom behavior has improved, and students are more consistently on task.\r\n\r\nOverall, this novel study has fostered higher engagement, stronger comprehension, and a more positive classroom environment. Students are not only learning the material—they are genuinely enjoying the process.","fullyFundedDate":1769739074522,"projectUrl":"project/the-lightning-thief-novel-study-and-boar/10064546/","projectTitle":"The Lightning Thief Novel Study and Board Game Making","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zuleger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10420237_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769469924887","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10420237"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34593","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":569,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":75,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":7,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":48.6,"schoolId":34593,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Warren County Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Warren County Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/warren-county-public-schools/warren-co-middle-school/34593"}
