So much of our learning takes place on the carpet. It's a fun and comfortable space where students gather for math, reading, morning meetings, brain breaks, and even educational videos. One especially meaningful moment was during a guidance lesson when they were all able to lay on the rug together to practice belly breathing. This is such an important social-emotional skill that helps students learn how to calm their bodies and minds when they feel upset. The rug truly creates a cozy, supportive space where we can build community while learning side by side.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the rug, they were beyond excited. Their faces lit up at the sight of the colorful rug. They couldn't wait to sit on it instead of the hard wooden floor. It instantly made our classroom feel warmer and more welcoming, and the students were eager to gather together and begin learning.\r\n\r\nAs we continue building our classroom community, the rug will be used for small-group reading lessons, hands-on math activities, and collaborative learning projects. We are currently focusing on reading and writing and it provides the perfect space for partner reading and engaging phonics games.
