Sixth graders made clay whistles and eighth graders made clay gnomes. The remainder of the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders I have this year will be given the opportunity to use clay glazes inside of the art class. This is all thanks to your generous donations that I, as well as my students, are very thankful for!\r\n\r\nWhen the students were told they would be using glazes and the \"fancy clay\" for their projects they said, \"that sounds really fun!\" I told the kids that it is very exciting to get to use glazes. Many of the students were confused by how watery the glazes were when they first began adding it to their projects, but they were quickly able to properly use the materials. One of the kids asked me if I had used glazes before and I told them I never used them until I was in college. This prompted the student to say \"wow we must be pretty lucky then if you never got to do this in school.\" I agreed and told them they we were very fortunate to receive donations to afford the materials that allowed them to experience this project to its full potential. \r\n\r\nOne of the next steps I am taking is to get throwing wheels for students so they can learn how to build pottery from scratch and then glaze their pieces. This has already been funded and I cannot wait to start these projects with the kids! Thanks to you all they will be able to add color and customize these art pieces!","fullyFundedDate":1761572252369,"projectUrl":"project/clay-it-aint-so/9676186/","projectTitle":"Clay It Ain’t So!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ward","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10112640_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754592079085","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10112640"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34537","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":402,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":90,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":57.8,"schoolId":34537,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Marion Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Marion Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/smyth-county-school-district/marion-middle-school/34537"}
