This is my first year at my new school, Albert Hill Middle School in Richmond City. My students are taking an additional math class (Math as an elective) as intervention. In order to incentivize students for their behavior and work completion, I have a school store. The students earn tickets for volunteering, answering questions, work completion, etc. The tickets can then be redeemed for snacks from the school store. \r\n Also, tissues and sanitizing wipes are not provided by the school. I like to daily wash student desks and surfaces to reduce the spread of germs. This new opportunity has sparked a sense of pride and ownership in their learning, as they realize they're gaining a real-world skill that connects to careers in fashion, design, and product creation.\r\n\r\nNext week, my students will begin using the sewing machines for the first time, and their excitement is contagious. They are eager to take on the challenge, apply what they've learned about hand sewing, and see their ideas come to life on a larger scale. This hands-on experience will help them strengthen their problem-solving skills as they learn to troubleshoot, adjust, and think critically about how to complete each step of a project. We have all the necessary supplies to support student learning and we are really happy to have some items that make day to day classroom activities simpler and easier to manage. I would say the biggest impact has been to have a clipboard for each student, which allows students to sit in flexible seating options and work collaboratively with their peers. Last year we did a Donors Choose for our audio interface and found that we couldn't record without a more current computer/iPad. Getting this iPad completes all of the tools so we can finally get going and recording!\r\n\r\nSo far, I've set up the iPad with GarageBand and made sure all the adapters work. I'm so excited to get kids working on it. Being able to record yourself is such a self reflective tool for students to give themselves some honest evaluation. \r\n\r\nLearning how to use an audio interface and record multi tracks is such a creative yet marketable skill.
