Having a work area for them at the board has changed their engagement level when we are practicing our music literacy, solfege singing, and board notes. It's helped them feel more comfortable in their space. The students love seeing their birthdays and upcoming events/field trips on our large class calendar. It's been one of the highlights so far of our room. As the year goes on, we will decorate, add days off, and fill it out.\r\n\r\nThe glue gun has made it so much easier to post up posters and keep them stuck to the wall. Pencils keep our students writing and off their chromebooks. My desk calendar keeps me organized! \r\n\r\nTissues, cups, and so much more help our classroom run smoothly. Before me, no had been teaching sewing and textiles, much less machine sewing! \r\n\r\nBecause of your donation, there are now enough sewing machines for most students to have their own to work with. Their first project was to create a tote bag with a lining. They were able to learn warp and weft, how to set up the machines, how to measure and cut fabric, how to follow a sewing pattern, seam allowance and so much more! \r\n\r\nThe majority of students have already completed their tote bags and were excited to use them over Spring Break. Next school year, I plan to elevate the program by having students make their own pajama pants. Every single one of my students enjoyed each item that was provided. One special moment was the thank-you card and ornament activity. Each student was tasked with creating a thank-you card for a loved one to share during the Thanksgiving break. They were able to utilize the cardstock, pens, markers, and paint to decorate beautiful cards for their loved ones. We were also able to create holiday ornaments to place on their trees at home. Each ornament contained an affirmation inside. The students used the affirmation cards to create their own special affirmation notes for the ornaments.\r\n\r\nAll of my students were happy and pleasantly surprised to receive snacks and treats at each group session. They often mentioned feeling hungry during group, so I was able to support them in that way as well. I plan to use the same materials to start another girls' group. I will also use the same activities and games provided through the donation. These materials, games, and activities will continue to be beneficial during the second semester. The students earn tickets for volunteering, answering questions, work completion, etc. The tickets can then be redeemed for snacks from the school store. \r\n Also, tissues and sanitizing wipes are not provided by the school. I like to daily wash student desks and surfaces to reduce the spread of germs.
