Our students with emotional disabilities are struggling readers. It is often difficult for them to read our middle school grade level textbooks with complex vocabulary concepts. \r\n\r\nThe picture books that you donated in this project are monumental in helping our students understand complex science topics such as natural selection, classification of living things, and geology land forms. The picture books help our students engage with the complex topic by helping them access their prior knowledge in a fun way.\r\n\r\nThese books are used to introduce a topic and then the students have access to these books throughout the unit as they learn the distinct properties that go with each topic. The illustrations are colorful and the language is simple and easy to access.
