Beazley Elementary in Prince George County, Virginia, now has access to engaging new books and phonics games that are already transforming the way our students learn and love reading.\r\n\r\nWith these resources, students are practicing essential early literacy skills such as decoding, blending, and sight word recognition while also building comprehension and fluency. The phonics games make foundational skills fun and interactive, turning practice into play. Our new books introduce students to rich vocabulary, diverse characters, and exciting storylines that spark curiosity and strengthen their understanding of the world around them.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading now looks like small groups gathered together with books in hand, students eagerly turning pages and asking questions, or pairs of children collaborating over a phonics game while cheering each other on. One student who was initially reluctant to read has discovered a favorite book series and now asks to read \"just one more chapter\" every day. We began a project by reading the book \"The Little House\" by Virginia Lee Burton. This story is about a small quaint house that sits on a hill in the country. As the story progresses a road is built in front of the house, followed by more houses, then apartments, a railroad, and finally large skyscrapers. One day the great-great-granddaughter sees the house and recognizes it from her grandmothers stories. She arranges to have the house moved out of the city, back to a hill in the country. \r\nWe talked about the setting of the book and using the paint sticks, I guided my students to draw some hills and trees. We talked about texture and added more details to our artwork.
