Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom. I am at five elementary schools in my district. Since starting my job here I have worked to get instruments into the hands of my students. First ukuleles and bucket drums. Then guitars, and a bass and amp. Next I'm going to try to get a drum set at each school. \r\n\r\nWhen the students saw the bass and amp they were very excited. We had already spent time as a class talking, reading, and watching about the bass and its importance in making music. My students are the students who do not take band. It is important to me to make sure that they have instrumental experiences too. It is also important to me that we make music together as a class. When we got the bass we played several one chord songs and took turns playing a bass line on the bass. I think the class favorite was Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin. It was so much fun watching the students experiment with the bass. Most of them first tried to play all the strings at once. When they figured out that was not correct, I would show them where to fret the note and some options for a bass line. They loved it! It was great seeing students who usually are very reserved come out of their shell and start making some noise to learn how to play! Please know that you contributed to turning that light on in each of my students!\r\n\r\nI also showed them a wonderful friend on mine from college playing drums. We watched one specific video with a LONG drum solo. My students loved that too. It is going to be so much fun watching them add a drum set. At the particular school you helped I am working with a local group to raise money over the summer for a classroom set of guitars. I do get a little money from the district. I have already begun pricing electronic drum sets for this school for next fall. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much. That was such a great thing that you did with your donation. I like to think of myself and other teachers as Johnny Appleseed - planting seeds of knowledge everyday. We may never see how they grow, but believe me they make a difference! Who would have thought that all those years ago, my drummer and friend from our infamous college band would make such a wonderful impact on the students that I teach. Thanks and God Bless!
