You've made a significant contribution to our lab spaces being clean and sanitary. In fact, through multiple projects, the Donors Choose community has raised the environmental quality in all our science labs. This project, in particular, provides soap for every lab. I now have soap, paper towels, and hand sanitizer in every lab. Each lab now has at least one fully functioning and fully stocked sink.\r\n\r\nEach lab also received cleaning wipes, an assortment of band-aids, and can share the Lysol and Febreze (which are in common areas). Each teacher received a personal, clip-on Purell hand sanitizer. Through your generous donations, and through Ripple's match, our students are learning to take care of our labs. They're learning to clean up after themselves. They're learning (and we're reinforcing) the standard safety practices of using gloves or washing hands during and after activities.\r\n\r\nAs I mentioned, this wonderful gift integrates nicely with my other efforts. When we asked our Administrators for additional paper, we were told that we'd get more paper next semester--around the middle of January! Because of your generosity, we now have 750 durable, high-quality folders—enough for every science student in our school. It may seem like a simple thing, but these folders have already begun transforming the way our students organize, learn, and take pride in their academic work.\r\n\r\nIn our classrooms, these folders have become more than just a place to hold papers. They represent structure, consistency, and the opportunity for every student—regardless of background—to take ownership of their learning. Many of our students come from families who work hard to meet basic needs, and often, supplies like binders and folders can feel like luxuries rather than essentials. Before this project, we had students trying to keep track of loose worksheets, folded lab reports, and crumpled notes stuffed into backpacks. Now, thanks to your support, every student in our science program has a sturdy, professional-looking folder that helps them feel organized, responsible, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nFrom a teacher's perspective, this project has had an immediate and measurable impact. When students have the right materials, they can spend their mental energy on learning, not on keeping track of scattered papers or worrying about losing assignments. It's easier for them to build organized study guides, store lab data, and review notes before tests. Our teachers have noticed a difference, too—students are turning in neater work, keeping up with handouts, and coming to class more prepared. The simple act of having a dedicated space for their science materials has improved confidence and accountability across the board.\r\n\r\nEven more importantly, this project has reinforced for our students the idea that people outside our school community care about their success. Many of our students have never experienced the feeling of a stranger investing in their education. When we explained that people from across the country donated to help them stay organized and succeed in science, the look of surprise and gratitude on their faces was unforgettable. It became a real-world lesson in kindness and civic engagement—proof that generosity and belief in others can make a tangible difference.\r\n\r\nYour donation has also helped us model the kind of organization and attention to detail that is essential in scientific work. When our students see their neatly labeled folders lined up and ready for use, they are reminded that good science depends on good organization—on clear notes, consistent data recording, and careful record-keeping. These are skills they will carry far beyond the classroom, whether they go on to study engineering, healthcare, environmental science, or any other field that values precision and preparation.\r\n\r\nTo every donor who contributed to this project: thank you. You have given our students the tools to take their education seriously and the message that their learning matters. You've helped level the playing field for hundreds of young scientists, and your impact will be felt not only this year but for years to come as these students continue their journey toward curiosity, discovery, and achievement.\r\n\r\nFrom all of us—students, teachers, and the entire science department—thank you for believing in our mission and for investing in our students' success.","fullyFundedDate":1755353122069,"projectUrl":"project/organizing-for-success-in-science-a-tea/9470833/","projectTitle":"Organizing for Success in Science- a Team Approach","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Evans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1571993_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1534762400698","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bill-evans"},{"teacherId":1571993,"projectId":9135635,"letterContent":"When I wrote this project, my team was desperate for basic notetaking supplies. We cobbled together enough pencils and paper folders from stock on hand, and with this gift were able to provide each science student the basics with which to take and keep notes during the busy Spring Testing Season!\r\n\r\nAnd this generous gift became the nexus for our first Fall project. Using the ruled paper as the core, the team wrote projects to provide enough materials (durable plastic folders, pens, pencils, and highlighters) to assemble a complete notetaking kit for every science student in the school. Though we have already completed our \"measurements\" lessons, the digital scales have been wonderful to have on hand. While we have used them several times in Physics class, particularly during construction of crash barriers and during our egg drop project, where determining the mass of materials used is an integral part of the design and engineering process, I have discovered that just leaving them on the counter has had an interesting effect. Students have naturally gravitated toward them as they move about the classroom. After observing students' attempts to weigh everything within reach, I set up a variety of objects typically found in density lessons. I placed a variety of identically sized bars and cubes next to the scales. As I watched students \"weighing\" each item, I noticed their quizzical looks. (Could this be curiosity?!) I smiled as I watched students puzzle the question of how identically sized objects could have such different masses. Their inquiry led to the discussions and impromptu lessons on density.\r\n The scales have also come in handy in working with our chemistry teacher, as you'll notice from the photos. In setting up a lab for students, she realized that her scales were not in the storage room. (I guess the contractors went shopping there, too!) Since I had the ones that you generously provided, I was able to support her efforts to conduct a lab, where the accurate measurement of chemicals was vital.\r\nAs for the digital multimeters, we have not yet begun our unit on Electricity & Magnetism, so the entire class has not been exposed to their use. However, I approached a former Algebra II student of mine and decided to run a train-the-trainer session with him. (Patrick is an inquisitive student that I have supported in two summer research programs at Norfolk State University. He has been exposed to fields of applied science during these sessions and has expressed interest in engaging in materials science research at the university!)\r\n I brought Patrick in one afternoon, and we ran through common, basic uses of the multimeter. I taught him to check voltages of outlets, test batteries, check continuity of wires, etc. Nothing elaborate, but rather an introduction to the functions available. My intention is for him to provide the introductory lesson to the Physics students when we get to the electricity unit.\r\n I look forward to integrating these tools into my instruction. Again, I thank you all for finding and funding my project amongst all the other great projects that teachers have developed to meet the needs of their students.","fullyFundedDate":1727362640426,"projectUrl":"project/renovation-madness/8802573/","projectTitle":"Renovation Madness","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Evans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1571993_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1534762400698","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bill-evans"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34844","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":904,"numTeachers":84,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":76,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":64.0,"schoolId":34844,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about B.T.
