Your gifts towards my \"Children Need Diverse Books\" project allowed me to purchase 13 uniquely diverse and inclusive books to add to our school's library collection. Several were utilized immediately during our units on Black History and the Civil Rights Movement, and others will benefit our Indigenous People and Native American History themes this coming fall.\r\n\r\nProviding schools with the resources needed for all students is a monumental task. One that is confounded by dated, irrelevant materials and budget constraints due to the challenging times we live in. School libraries are particularly affected by these challenges due to the cost of maintaining their collections' relevance for diverse student bodies. The diverse books kit I was able to purchase through Donors Choose included 13 titles from diverse authors and touched on diverse and inclusive themes. These 13 titles may seem like a small drop in the bucket, yet every drop helps to fill that bucket. For this, I am truly thankful, and I know my students are, as they have listened to and checked out these titles eagerly. I am sure they will continue to offer similar reading enjoyment and knowledge of important topics for generations of students to come.","fullyFundedDate":1732133995159,"projectUrl":"project/children-need-diverse-books/8934533/","projectTitle":"Children Need Diverse Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Umstead","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9832239_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762274294940","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9832239"},{"teacherId":9922063,"projectId":9110370,"letterContent":"Your generosity and kindness has led to a really incredible opportunity for my students. By now having a complete set of ukulele's, each student has the opportunity to be on the same page when teaching string instruments. It's a great stepping stool toward learning larger string instruments which are a unique way for human beings to express themselves either on their own or in orchestras, helping the fine arts to grow and impact the world. Music is a type of release for a lot of students who need an outlet, and having the ukulele's as an offering is an awesome opportunity for my students who may otherwise not be able to access these types of instruments.\r\n\r\nThe end of the school year is coming quickly and my 5th grade students are able to have their promotion ceremony to celebrate their next step into middle school. They are working on some songs to perform for their families that focus on community and togetherness. One of the songs is being performed by the entire 5th grade. Having the ukulele's as an option to play for that song is allowing students with all abilities to particiupate in this, emphasizing our theme of community and empathy.\r\n\r\nI am so grateful for you and how quick you were to help me complete this set so my students have equal access to this type of instruments. Thank you for supporting teachers and supporting the fine arts.","fullyFundedDate":1740795072501,"projectUrl":"project/ukeleles-for-kces/9110370/","projectTitle":"Ukelele's for KCES!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hazel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9922063_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740414284437","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9922063"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_56071","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":553,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":57,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":68.5,"schoolId":56071,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Kiln Creek Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Kiln Creek Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/newport-news-public-schools/kiln-creek-elementary-school/56071"}
