I work with students with Autism and Developmental Delays which makes some of the learning activities and routine more difficult for them. Literacy development has been one area that our class has struggled with, and thanks to your donation we were able to put together 10 book boxes with engaging books and hands on materials! \r\n\r\nWe have been able to introduce the book boxes during our literacy learning station each week, focusing on one book at a time that correlates to the learning theme. We first let student explore the materials while an adult reads the book, and as the week progresses, we begin using the supplemental materials to answer questions about the book or retell the story. This previous school year has been a world wind and I have enjoyed various was to incorporate the supplies into learning. We created various items with our school's themes as a main focus. We cut and tore paper to increase our fine motor skills. As well we created an end of the year book of animals, bugs, and reptiles. We used the play doh to increase our fine motor skills as well.
