When the materials arrived, their faces lit up as they explored each item. Many students eagerly asked questions, shared their excitement with classmates, and could not wait to try the new centers. The sense of joy and curiosity in the room was truly special.\r\n\r\nThe noise-canceling headphones were met with relief and excitement by students who benefit from a quieter learning environment. Several students expressed how \"calm\" and \"happy\" they felt while wearing them, and they quickly learned how to independently choose them when they needed help focusing.\r\n\r\nDuring math centers, students were thrilled to use the hands-on counting materials, such as the spiders and airplanes. They carefully counted, sorted, and created patterns, often working together and helping one another. These materials sparked meaningful conversations about numbers and encouraged students who may normally hesitate to participate.\r\n\r\nThe visual student timer helped students understand transitions in a concrete way. Many students watched the timer closely and reminded peers when time was almost up, showing increased ownership and responsibility for their learning.\r\n\r\nStudents quickly connected with the sensory chew toys and the Little Earth Buddy plush. These tools provided comfort and support during moments of big emotions. Students began using feeling words more often and demonstrated improved self-regulation and empathy toward classmates.\r\n\r\nOverall, the students felt a strong sense of pride and excitement knowing these materials were just for them. The new resources have created a more engaging, calm, and supportive classroom where students are excited to learn each day. The generosity of our donors made these joyful moments possible and has had a lasting impact on our classroom community. When the rug first arrived, my students were walking down the hall and kept stopping to ask me eagerly about where the rug was going to be placed. During open house, they wanted to go ahead and sit on the rug to try it out.\r\n\r\nThe rug has been so beneficial at the beginning of the year to establish much needed routines in a large area. Students enjoy having a square with ample space to sit on. With the boundaries of each square on the carpet, each student does not have to sit in close proximity. Due to having a comfortable place to sit, students are listening better and engaged in discussions during class. \r\n\r\nThis carpet is going to be so useful for many years and will be used by thousands of students! We had over 450 students & parents attend this event. Over 60 volunteers helped run the stations which included BETA Club & NHS Club students from three different schools along with our own HES teachers. \r\n\r\nFamilies were able to choose from 25 stations which was two more stations than originally planned for. I feel like the goal of having families explore STEM by participating in station activities together was achieved.\r\n\r\nThe donations to purchase materials through Donors Choose definitely helped make this night a success! One of the favorite stations families enjoyed was making ice cream in a bag. They used several of the materials purchased through Donors Choose to create the ice cream. I was told their creation was very yummy! There was a continuous line to create fluffy slime throughout the night and families thought the Glo-Germ detective station was neat. Parents were thanking me all evening. My response was that the night would not have been possible without the donations that you gave towards this project. My Pre-K and K students have really enjoyed using the tool sets to practice with tools such as a drill and look at the task cards to create different items. My 4th grade students used the Pixel sets to create game characters when we were learning about STEM careers such as game design.
