The graphic novels and other history related books, immediately captured my students' attention and gave them another way to connect with the people, places, and events we are learning about in class.\r\n\r\nStudents are using the books during independent reading, in small groups, and as a way to extend their learning at home. They are excited to check the books out to take home, read them, and complete a Reader's Response. In class, students are also sharing connections they notice between the books they are reading and our Virginia Studies lessons. It has been exciting to hear students make those connections and recognize that history can be found in the stories they are reading.\r\n\r\n These books have helped foster a genuine interest in reading while deepening students' understanding of Virginia history. It has been so rewarding to watch students take ownership of their space and learn that being organized can make our entire school day run more smoothly.\r\n\r\nWe are using the bins every day to store classroom supplies, books, and materials that students need throughout the day. A simple routine that has made a big difference is having students return materials to their bins at the end of a lesson or before transitioning to another activity. This has helped us spend less time searching for supplies and more time learning! As we continue through the school year, my students will keep practicing these organizational routines and building independence as learners.
