Daily students listen and actively engage in read alouds. The books chosen for this list cover a wild range of topics that impact and influence students today. Whether hearing the story of 13 American women who changed the world, reading the works of Yuyi Morales, or just hearing a fun story like Enemy Pie students will take a journey. Reading has the ability to awaken thinkers, writers, and wonderers my hope is that by bringing these books into my classroom students will have new opportunities to tap into a topic, genre, or author that inspires them. This school year my class will be participating in The Global Read aloud, which features books by author Yuyi Morales. They will connect with students around the world to discuss the books. My class will also be taking part in social emotional learning, books on this list will help my students build empathy and social awareness. It is my goal as a teacher to open my students world outside of the classroom.
