They started by following step-by-step directions to construct their first models, which helped them practice careful observation and problem-solving. Once their builds were complete, they used simple block coding to program their creations to move. It has been wonderful to watch students connect what they are learning in science and technology to something they can physically build and control. One memorable moment was when a group of students successfully programmed their creation to move for the first time—they immediately started cheering and sharing ideas for what they wanted to try next.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. Many of them were eager to explore the pieces and were full of questions about what they would be able to build. The hands-on nature of the materials helped students who learn best by doing feel confident and engaged right away. They loved the idea that they were not just building something, but also bringing it to life through coding.\r\n\r\nAs we continue this project, students will begin experimenting with modifying their builds and adjusting their block code to change how their creations move. They will test ideas, make improvements, and learn from trial and error. These next steps will help deepen their understanding of basic engineering, science, and computer programming concepts while encouraging creativity and teamwork. Thanks to the support of our donors, students are able to experience these real-world learning opportunities in a fun and meaningful way. We are so grateful for this opportunity provided by our amazing donors.","fullyFundedDate":1765943965346,"projectUrl":"project/building-tomorrows-thinkers-one-brick/9877724/","projectTitle":"Building Tomorrow’s Thinkers, One Brick at a Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Cummings","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7486215"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34073","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":326,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":67,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":74,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":7,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"3 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":74.3,"schoolId":34073,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Nathaniel Greene Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Nathaniel Greene Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/greene-county-school-district/nathaniel-greene-elementary-school/34073"}
