Using colored visuals helps us to teach strategies, skills, and provides opportunities for students to increase language development, communication, social interaction, memory retention and engagement. At Poe Middle School 60% of our student population are multilingual learners...so as we create engaging instruction that provides language supports we use A LOT of colored ink. When students do not have access to the color it limits our opportunities to encourage details, questions, and inferences as they connect images to the academic content. Over the last three weeks, Ms. Ragan's students have taken care of twelve eggs in an incubator. The students made sure the eggs were warm and cozy. On Monday, the students spent the day watching the chickens hatch and take their first steps. Since then, they have built a brooder box, set up a play pen, made sure the chicks had food and water, and cleaned out the brooder box because as the one student said, \"they poop a lot, Ms. Ragan\". Each student got to name one chick, we have Peter Pan, Pocoyo, Peppa, Masha, Chicken, and Duck!\r\nMy students are gaining valuable life skills by learning how to be responsible for something completely dependent on them, how to be gentle with beings smaller than themselves and what it requires to take care of a pet, the good, the bad, and the smelly. My students are very proud of their additions and will drag you over to meet them if you stop by room 130.","fullyFundedDate":1734549090208,"projectUrl":"project/life-cycle-of-a-chicken-up-close-and-per/8966952/","projectTitle":"Life Cycle of a Chicken Up Close and Personal","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ragan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9847807"},{"teacherId":9874245,"projectId":9006895,"letterContent":"Our color printer has made our classroom learning experiences for multilingual learners hands-on and engaging.
