They were so very excited when our items began arriving each day! As a class we envisioned how we would use all our recess equipment and when it would be an appropriate time to get them out. Our school is under construction right now and the class determined that some items, like Kan Jam will wait to be used until the spring, when construction moves completely inside and our frisbees would not be lost 'over the fence'. The first day we took our basket out to recess was very much like waking up at Christmas! The excitement was contagious as they shared how to use some of equipment and grouped up with other children to play. They invited each other into the games and activities - teaching each other how to pass, how to direct the volleyball to where they wanted it to go, how to make a basket, and how to double dutch jump rope. The songs they sing as they jump rope make me and other teachers smile with memories of our own recess as children. \r\nAs the weather will soon be getting better as spring nears, I am looking forward to the children continuing to build their social skills and healthy choices in activities through using the recess items we have received due to your generosity! We can't thank you enough for your thoughtfulness and support.","fullyFundedDate":1763864235862,"projectUrl":"project/recess-should-be-fun/9481815/","projectTitle":"Recess Should be Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Petersen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9323815_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757181229320","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kristine-petersen"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_54113","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":611,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":47,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":40,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":43,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":77.2,"schoolId":54113,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dranesville Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dranesville Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/fairfax-county-public-schools/dranesville-elementary-school/54113"}
