From morning journal writing to reading response activities, every student now has a dependable tool to fully participate in learning. One memorable moment was during our recent writing workshop, where students eagerly sharpened their pencils and began drafting personal narratives without needing to borrow or wait. When the materials were first introduced, students' faces lit up with excitement and gratitude. They immediately understood that these were just for them. This sense of ownership encouraged them to take better care of their supplies and stay more focused during lessons. As a result, transitions between activities have become smoother, and instructional time is used more effectively.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these resources will continue to support our ongoing literacy goals. Students are currently working on completing worksheets in preparation for the SOL test. Having consistent access to pencils ensures that they can confidently engage in each stage of the writing process without interruption. We are also incorporating more peer editing and collaborative activities, where students actively use their pencils to provide feedback and make revisions. This donation has laid the foundation for stronger independence and accountability in the classroom. Our next steps include building on these skills by encouraging deeper critical thinking and more detailed written responses. Thanks to this support, our students are better prepared to succeed and take pride in their learning journey.","fullyFundedDate":1768502218607,"projectUrl":"project/one-pencil-one-dream/9741508/","projectTitle":"One pencil, One dream","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. ILISAN","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10246167_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757210236044","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-ilisan"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_34727","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":571,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":85,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":3,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"18.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":15.4,"schoolId":34727,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Arnett Hills Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Arnett Hills Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/danville-public-schools/g-l-h-johnson-elementary-school/34727"}
