One of the most impactful ways we used these materials was through a school-wide recognition project that allowed our students to feel seen, valued, and proud of their unique experiences. Students had the opportunity to place flags outside as a visual representation of their connection to the military. This simple act became incredibly powerful—each flag told a story, and together they created a beautiful display of strength, sacrifice, and community right outside our school.\r\n\r\nIn addition, students helped decorate a bulletin board dedicated to honoring military children. They contributed drawings, messages, and symbols that represented their feelings and experiences. This activity not only gave them a creative outlet but also encouraged meaningful conversations about resilience, pride, and the challenges that come with having a family member in the military. To further build recognition and unity, students wore beads throughout the day. These beads became a symbol of pride and connection, helping staff and peers easily recognize and celebrate our military-connected students. It created a sense of belonging that was visible and felt throughout the entire school.","fullyFundedDate":1772448977438,"projectUrl":"project/lets-honor-month-of-military-child/9875648/","projectTitle":"Let's Honor Month of Military Child!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Glatt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9084520_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1698197303726","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9084520"},{"teacherId":9084520,"projectId":9875705,"letterContent":"Because of this project, students now have access to calming and social emotional learning books that help them understand feelings, practice coping skills, and learn how to problem solve in healthy ways. Through guided conversations, modeling, and reflection activities, students are learning emotional vocabulary, empathy, perspective taking, and strategies such as deep breathing, taking a break, and positive self talk. These books give children concrete examples of what big emotions look like and what they can safely do when they feel overwhelmed.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is interactive and supportive. We read together during counseling lessons and small groups, pause to talk about characters' choices, and connect the stories to real life situations students experience at school. Students often visit the calming corner to independently look through a book when they need a quiet reset. The space has become a safe routine rather than a punishment and students choose to go there, regulate, and return ready to learn.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled with frustration or shutdown behaviors now reach for a book or coping tool instead of acting out. One student proudly shared, \"I'm doing what the character did I took belly breaths,\" before rejoining class. Watching students recognize their emotions and independently use strategies has been incredibly meaningful. Your support is helping children build lifelong skills in self regulation, confidence, and emotional safety.","fullyFundedDate":1767232811931,"projectUrl":"project/calming-corner-for-emotional-regulation/9875705/","projectTitle":"Calming Corner for Emotional Regulation","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Glatt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9084520_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1698197303726","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9084520"},{"teacherId":6914656,"projectId":9487808,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contributions that made it possible to purchase a brand-new classroom rug for our students. The arrival of the rug has completely transformed our learning environment, creating a vibrant and welcoming community space right at the heart of our room. We use this beautiful new area daily as our dedicated morning meeting space, kicking off each day with fun classroom games and discussions. Your generosity has provided my students with a comfortable and clearly defined area where they can connect, share, and truly feel like they belong to a classroom family.\r\n\r\nThis rug is not just a decoration; it is a versatile and essential piece of our daily routine. It serves as our 'landing spot' for independent work when a change of scenery is needed, and the students absolutely love gathering here to enjoy their recess activities together. It is also their preferred spot for watching lessons and presentations on the board, making learning feel more collaborative and engaging. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for providing this essential resource that fosters a sense of community, comfort, and engagement for every student who walks through our door.\r\n\r\nKnowing that you chose to support our classroom helps teach the students a valuable lesson about generosity and community. Every time we gather on the new rug for a reading circle or a collaborative activity, your kindness is felt. This rug will continue to support countless lessons, group projects, and precious moments of shared learning for years to come. Thank you once again for investing in our students' comfort, engagement, and success.
