We use these resources during lessons and throughout the school day to help students recognize emotions, practice naming how they feel, and explore ways to communicate their needs. During Morning Meeting, students used the feelings mirror and chart to identify how they are feeling, creating a meaningful opportunity to practice together.\r\n\r\nOur student's don't always see themselves in the mirror. When they were shown the feelings mirror many of them showed excitement and engagement,The mirror invited them to notice facial expressions. Many of my students have complex communication needs and significant physical disabilities, so having materials designed specifically for their individual abilities and access needs is essential. With this resource, I can create customized learning materials that make classroom activities more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for every student.\r\n\r\nOne exciting opportunity is allowing students to participate in creating items to sell in our seasonal school store. This project provides opportunities to explore the process of making a product, making choices, expressing preferences, and participating in a shared goal. Students can communicate what they like, choose colors or designs when possible, and take part in decisions about the items we create. These experiences support functional communication, vocational skills, self-determination, and a sense of pride in contributing to our school community. Even students with significant motor challenges can participate through accessible choices, adapted materials, and individualized opportunities to engage in the process.\r\n\r\nThe 3D printer will also allow me to create three-dimensional core vocabulary symbols and customized communication supports. For students who benefit from tactile or concrete learning experiences, these symbols can provide an additional way to explore and understand important vocabulary. They can be incorporated into communication activities, classroom routines, academic lessons, and shared reading experiences. Having materials that I can design and print myself means I can better meet individual student needs and create resources that connect directly to what students are learning and experiencing.\r\n\r\nAs the speech therapist, this resource expands my ability to develop creative, individualized materials that support communication, participation, and access to the curriculum. Rather than relying only on commercially available resources, I can design items that reflect my students' interests, abilities, and learning goals. These materials can help students engage with classroom content in new ways while providing more opportunities to communicate, make choices, express ideas, and participate alongside their peers.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this project reinforces the belief that every student deserves opportunities to learn, create, communicate, and contribute. The 3D printer is more than a piece of technology; it is a tool for increasing access, supporting independence, and celebrating each student's unique abilities. I am deeply grateful for helping make these opportunities possible.
