Our summer reads program has been going on for about 6 years now and we were so happy to be able to continue the program thanks to your help. Each summer, our students have a book to read and then come back ready to learn together using that text. It really helps the students to hit the ground running with a common experience that we can build upon from the get go. The text this summer is The Wild Robot and this book has a strong theme of environmentalism and care for community. As students discuss the themes and represent their responses to the book, it opens the conversation line wide open. These experiences also allow students to showcase their own identity while honoring the ideas, challenges, and triumphs of their new classmates. Another powerful aspect of the program is that it encourages families to engage in literature in the \"off season\" as well.\r\n\r\nThanks again and happy reading to you - I know we're happy readers thanks to YOU!","fullyFundedDate":1769012082982,"projectUrl":"project/community-building-through-summer-readin/10042490/","projectTitle":"Community Building Through Summer Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lake","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9124113_orig.jpg?crop=2743,2743,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690909761742","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9124113"},{"teacherId":9124113,"projectId":9452236,"letterContent":"We just finished our portraits - a fantastic antidote to a week full of mid-year testing on screens!
