The joy and curiosity were palpable as we opened each package and discovered the clay, wool, pencil bags, and handwork bags—tools that felt both professional and magical in their hands. For some students, this was their very first time working with real clay and experiencing what it's like to bring a 3D form to life. The individual bags have given each student a sense of ownership and pride in their handwork, allowing them to safely store and pick up where they left every class, without knots or confusion. \r\n\r\nPre-K and kindergarten students have especially loved using the colorful wool for wet felting. One particularly joyful moment was when a group of kindergartners felt the warm soapy water in their hands and watched the fibers begin to transform under their palms. They were amazed by how wool could turn into a firm, soft shape—perfect for storytelling and imaginative play. The process was more than a craft—it was a sensory, collaborative, and magical experience.\r\n\r\nWith their own pencil bags, students now take more responsibility for their art materials. It has helped foster independence and care for their tools, which supports our long-term classroom goal of treating artmaking as both a creative and respectful practice. In the coming weeks, we'll be glazing our clay pieces—another new experience for many students—and learning about color layering, surface design, and kiln firing. Your donation has empowered students to explore new artistic mediums, and for that, we are deeply grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1743090938099,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-for-art-class-for-public-pre-k-/9023955/","projectTitle":"Supplies for Art Class for Public Pre-K-5th Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Blair","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9602851"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35402","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":204,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":50,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"8.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":35402,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about White River School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"White River School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/vermont/hartford-school-district-54/white-river-school/35402"}
