The new games have already transformed our classroom! My students use them daily during our Portuguese language centers, and the energy in the room is completely different—more talking, more laughing, more collaborating, and, most importantly, more speaking in the target language. The biggest hit so far has been Potato Head. The children love creating different characters, giving them names, and building little stories around them. I overhear them negotiating in Portuguese—\"Ele tem chapéu ou cabelo primeiro?\"—as they design their characters and describe their personalities. It has been an incredible way to get even shy students to speak naturally and confidently.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, they were thrilled. Several of them jumped up and said, \"Podemos brincar agora?\" They immediately started exploring the games, pointing out new pieces, trying out new words, and showing each other what they built. It was the type of joyful learning moment every teacher hopes for—students engaged, curious, and practicing language without even realizing how much they are learning.\r\n\r\nWe are now using these resources to support a storytelling project in class. Students choose a character they created with Potato Head or another game and use it to build short narratives in Portuguese. The next step will be recording these stories orally so students can hear their own progress over time. Your generosity gave my students the tools to learn, create, and express themselves in meaningful ways. Thank you for making such a wonderful difference in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758055033477,"projectUrl":"project/language-in-action-cultural-games-for-c/9672315/","projectTitle":"Language in Action: Cultural Games for Curious Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tobias","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8287411"},{"teacherId":3278086,"projectId":9761051,"letterContent":"We just wanted to thank you again for your generous donations. When the cardboard saws arrived, everyone was so delighted! We now have enough tools that we can successfully create wildly imaginative things on a school-wide level. My students learned how to turn garbage into a variety of useful and beautiful things. We made weaving looms to create little rugs, we cut out flat pieces and turned them into beautifully painted bird sculptures, and we made round looms too. We invented and created cardboard puppets and even made a puppet theater! Thank you for your generous gift. (I read it too!) \r\n\r\nIt means the world to these students to have exciting books for their book club groups! Many 4th graders reach for graphic novels (or comics), and although it is good to see them reading, many students don't know how fun other novels are until they read with their book club books. These novels really helped them love reading and helped push their reading levels up higher as well!
