I was very worried about how to fund our school's reading program with our small budget, and you relieved my stress!\r\n\r\nOur school has read over 160,000 pages with 300 students participating so far this school year. Students have been pleased and surprised by the chance to pick out prizes. It's been really fun working with both students and teachers to build a stronger reading culture at our school. We've overheard students walking to class discussing books they are reading with their friends. We've also had the highest reading scores our school has ever seen this last quarter. In addition, some students have finished a book for the first time in their lives, and some have even decided that maybe reading isn't so bad!\r\n\r\nThank you for making these huge changes possible!","fullyFundedDate":1760732545486,"projectUrl":"project/read-em-and-reap-rewards-for-life/9726014/","projectTitle":"Read 'Em and Reap: Rewards for Life","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tierca","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8667170"},{"teacherId":8293823,"projectId":6170875,"letterContent":"When the sound therapy materials arrived, my students lit up with excitement and curiosity. Many of them had never experienced singing bowls, chimes, or sound-based grounding tools before, and their reactions were immediate, calm, focused, and surprisingly open. Students who normally struggle with anxiety, restlessness, or frustration were able to settle into stillness and participate in a way I've never seen from them before.\r\nWe've already started using the sound therapy tools during mindfulness breaks, SEL lessons, and end-of-class cool-downs. One of our favorite routines is a guided relaxation session where students choose the sound they connect with most, then we practice breathing techniques alongside the tones. The room becomes quieter, more centered, and more grounded within minutes.\r\nThese materials have created a space where students feel safe enough to self-regulate, reset, and return to learning with a clearer mind. Several students have even asked to use the sound tools before tests or difficult assignments because they help them manage stress and focus.\r\nOur next step is to incorporate the sound therapy resources into a small wellness unit where students will learn how sound affects the nervous system, explore different grounding strategies, and reflect on what helps them feel most balanced. Your generosity has given us a powerful way to support mental health and emotional well-being in our classroom.\r\nThank you for making this possible. Your support has brought peace, connection, and healing into our school community.","fullyFundedDate":1644473816424,"projectUrl":"project/the-benefits-of-sound-therapy/6170875/","projectTitle":"The Benefits of Sound Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rasmussen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8293823_orig.jpg?crop=278,278,x0,y1&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1643344646457","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tiffany-rasmussen"},{"teacherId":2488181,"projectId":9656617,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the donation of Graphic Novel Memoirs to our classroom! Students are devouring the books and learning new perspectives and empathy during our independent reading time. \r\n Students at our alternative high school have often struggled with sustained reading and some even say they have never finished a novel before. These past few months, we have been including 10 minutes of independent reading time in class. Students are interested in reading grahic novels because they are more accessible for struggling readers and second language learners. \r\n Thank you for helping us increase our collection of memoir graphic novels. Memoirs help students to see other perspectives and this has also opened up opportunities for our students to see the experiences of others who have similar cultures to their own as a lot of the memoirs are of less represented voices in literature. In particular, my students who are learning English as a second language are benefiting from reading graphic novel memoirs. The pictures and reduced number of words help them to comprehend the novels easier. \r\n Thank you again for providing a variety of choices and options for students who normally struggle with commiting to reading a full novel.
