Our Dance Company Officers are using them to create a piece based on the 80's hit movie \"Big.\" The most iconic scene from that movie is Tom Hanks playing the floor piano in the FAO Schwartz toy store. The dancers are using this scene as inspiration to motivate their movement for this piece of our \"80's Baby\" dance concert.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has allowed each officer to have their own piano, as opposed to multiple dancers sharing one piano. This will also amplify the sound and gives more variety and options to the movement and sound that can be created and explored for this piece. \r\n\r\nThe dance company officers began creating this piece by experimenting and playing with the floor pianos. They try to discover ways they can creatively create sound on the piano as well as unique and original movements that exaggerate the use of the piano. Dancers have explored playing recognizable songs (Chopsticks for example, just like Tom Hanks), as well as the kinds of \"music\" created from dancing on the piano. Dancers are really getting creative with transitioning between pianos, using multiple pianos, and different sounds and songs from different pianos.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward in the coming months, dancers will solidify choreography, including the music from the pianos, and set the piece on stage. This will involve testing the amplification of sound in the auditorium. Lights, costumes and staging will come next before our big show in March.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us create an immersive experience for both our dancers and our audience! They measure, cut, build, evaluate, revise, and often start over when something doesn't go as planned.\r\nHaving access to these materials means our students can embrace that process without fear of making mistakes. Instead of seeing errors as failures, they learn that revision and perseverance are essential parts of both theatre and life.
