Many of our students struggle to afford consistent reed replacements, which can directly impact tone quality, response, and overall confidence. With this generous support, we are able to provide reeds to students who otherwise might try to \"make do\" with worn-out equipment, and we are also introducing students to higher-quality reeds as part of our daily warm-ups and section rehearsals. One particularly meaningful moment was hearing students immediately notice the difference in response and sound during long tones—several students smiled, stopped, and said, \"That feels so much easier to play.\"\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new boxes of reeds, the reaction was a mix of excitement and relief. Some students were genuinely surprised that they could take a reed without worrying about cost, while others were eager to test different strengths and brands for the first time. For many, this was the first opportunity to play on a reed that allowed them to produce a clear, focused tone with less effort. The boost in confidence was immediate, especially for students who had previously felt frustrated or discouraged by equipment limitations.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, these reeds are supporting our current focus on tone development, articulation, and ensemble blend as we prepare repertoire for upcoming performances. Students are learning how to select appropriate reeds, care for them properly, and evaluate how equipment choices affect their sound—skills that will benefit them well beyond this year. Thanks to our donors, students are not only better equipped today, but are also developing the tools and confidence needed to grow as independent, successful musicians.","fullyFundedDate":1758237522317,"projectUrl":"project/reeds-for-beginners/9557947/","projectTitle":"Reeds for Beginners!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Major","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3978985_orig.jpg?crop=2689,2690,x0,y331&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1566570265545","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3978985"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_124347","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1480,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":12,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":81,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.8,"schoolId":124347,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Lake Mountain Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Lake Mountain Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/utah/alpine-school-district/lake-mountain-middle-school/124347"}
