My students love to hear stories, but reading in the music room looks quite different sometimes than it does in the regular classroom.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the materials that you so generously funded, I have been able to use several of these books to introduce new concepts, such as reading notes on the lines and spaces of the staff. Other books have been used to supplement music lessons, placing rhythms and instrument sounds in certain sections. And many others are used as a listening center, where students can listen to the stories while following along.\r\n\r\nThe main purpose of \"Sing Me a Story\" is to strengthen students' reading skills in a way that is fun for them. Since we almost always sing stories in music, it's easier for struggling readers to follow along with the story in a book since the song is usually quite familiar to them. The benefits of this extra practice can carry over to other texts and strengthen their reading skills, which will be with them their whole lives. Not only that, but in singing the stories, students are also practicing matching pitch and singing tunefully as a group, which is something that we always want to strive for in music class.\r\n\r\nI'm so excited to be able to share these books with my students! Thank you so much for the impact that you've made in my classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1787605065716,"projectUrl":"project/sing-me-a-story/10489580/","projectTitle":"Sing Me a Story!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Crews","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10593933_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y256&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1786723055381","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mscrewsmusicroom"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_100745","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":869,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":18,"percentAsian":12,"percentBlack":17,"percentWhite":49,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"24.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.4,"schoolId":100745,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Wally Watkins Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Wally Watkins Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/wylie-ind-school-district-collin/wally-watkins-elementary-school/100745"}
