As our weather changed, the kiddos were able to have indoor recess. They were shocked to know they wouldn't use the chrome book. Instead, they were amazed and excited as I took out some of the items and created stations around the room. They gathered into their own groups and began playing. It was a joy watching them play, interact, and laugh WITHOUT the chrome book. My kiddos can't wait for the next indoor recess! They were a great way to start off the school year to remind students of positive traits that help create a positive class environment. One of our first books was Lacey Walker- Nonstop Talker. We discussed the importance of listening to others rather than just talking. They mentioned listening can make them a better friend, shows that we care about others, and it helps us learn new things. It was very fitting for the weeks we've had. \r\n\r\nIn addition, the Bead bar was a total success! Students are motivated to read their books and PASS their Accelerated Reading test. They add their beads and wear them on Friday. They get so excited and get a little competitive over who has the most beads. Even my hesitant readers look forward to AR time. It's been amazing seeing them reading our library books with such joy 😊","fullyFundedDate":1755128115038,"projectUrl":"project/back-to-school-books/9529980/","projectTitle":"Back to School Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Venegas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9098836"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_15984","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":740,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":100,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.0,"schoolId":15984,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Octavio Salinas Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Octavio Salinas Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/united-independent-school-district/salinas-elementary-school/15984"}
