When my students first saw the grocery play set, they were so excited to explore all of the different foods and items. What looked like play to them quickly became a meaningful learning opportunity. We have been using the materials to practice identifying foods, making choices, sorting and counting items, and using everyday language. My students especially enjoy pretending to shop, fill their baskets, and take turns being the shopper and cashier.\r\n\r\nThese materials have also helped me make learning more functional and engaging for my students with different learning needs. During our grocery store activities, we can practice math skills such as counting, recognizing numbers, and understanding quantities while also working on communication, following directions, taking turns, and social skills. One of my favorite things to see is students becoming more willing to participate because they are learning through an activity that feels fun and familiar.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue expanding our pretend grocery store into real-world learning experiences. We will use it to practice making shopping lists, identifying needs versus wants, using pretend money, comparing quantities, and communicating appropriately while shopping. These are skills my students can carry beyond our classroom and use in their everyday lives. Thank you for giving my students resources that make learning exciting, meaningful, and accessible. Your generosity has truly made a difference in our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1777997545244,"projectUrl":"project/mini-market-mighty-minds/10127659/","projectTitle":"Mini Market, Mighty Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. G","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9317475"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17850","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":420,"numTeachers":20,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":43,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"21.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":80.7,"schoolId":17850,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Peete Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Peete Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/tyler-independent-school-district/peete-elementary-school/17850"}
