These texts help our students practice recognizing emotions in characters—and then connect those lessons to real situations in their own lives.\r\nReading in our classroom is a warm, interactive experience. We gather together for read-alouds where students are encouraged to pause, reflect, and share what they notice about the characters' emotions and actions. After reading, students participate in discussions, drawing activities, partner talks, or journal responses that help them apply the lesson to their own world. Our reading time feels safe, connected, and meaningful—exactly what these books were meant to support.\r\nSeveral students who sometimes struggle to express their feelings have really connected with these stories. They often stay after a read-aloud to flip through the pages again or talk about a character they relate to. One student recently said, \"That book feels like me,\" which opened up a beautiful conversation about handling big feelings. Each classroom now has a designated calming corner where students can use the tools to regulate emotions, refocus, and return to learning feeling more grounded. Teachers have shared that the care boxes are helping students practice self-awareness and calming strategies in a healthy, independent way.\r\n\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments happened the week the boxes arrived. A student who was feeling overwhelmed quietly walked over to the calming corner, used a breathing card and a fidget tool, and returned to group work with a big, relieved smile. Later, the student told me, \"I just needed a minute, and it helped.\" Watching a child advocate for their emotional needs was powerful — exactly why these care boxes matter.\r\n\r\n\r\nStudents were so excited! Several classes cheered, and many students immediately reached for the mindfulness cards and sensory tools. They were eager to explore everything and loved knowing these resources were there to support them whenever they needed a moment of calm. The sense of comfort the boxes brought into the room was instant.\r\n\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue learning and practicing emotional regulation strategies, using the care box tools as part of our social–emotional lessons. We'll also introduce simple mindfulness routines that classrooms can use during transitions or stressful moments.
