The love of reading is increasingly difficult, especially with the necessity to compete with technology, however seeing students faces light up when we study a novel together is priceless!\r\n In our classroom, we have a community that is open to sharing new ideas and hearing each other out completely, so having a class set of novels for students to engage with and ask deep questions about is amazing and bringing our class closer together each and every day.\r\n The novel is unique in that it is written in poetry form and still tells a story of characters and the impact of the Dust Bowl on their lives. We have a Unit of study in our curriculum that touches on the Dust Bowl, and I knew that having the novel \"Out of the Dust\" as an addition to our learning would open new avenues of understanding for students.\r\n Our class is thoroughly enjoying diving into the study of this novel, and it is a great way to engage them in higher thinking and discussion skills that will prepare them for the future.","fullyFundedDate":1769379819964,"projectUrl":"project/facing-adversity/9966646/","projectTitle":"Facing Adversity","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Muniz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp1747102_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1475772291776","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsmuniz"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_128078","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":12,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":64,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":75.7,"schoolId":128078,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about TLCA Abilene - Secondary Campus on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"TLCA Abilene - Secondary Campus","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/texas-department-of-education/tlca-abilene-secondary-campus/128078"}
