It set the tone for the year in the Art studio. The flexible seating options gave students a voice and choice to be able to work in the way that was the best fit for their energy level. The projects that they were able to complete this year deepened their understanding of the core principles of art. As their teacher, I am proud of the pride they take in their work when they have quality materials and supplies to complete the planned projects. We are so thankful for the generosity of the donors that have contributed to Donor's Choose to make magic happen in our classroom. We meet every Thursday to create projects where students design and program vehicles. So far, we've developed a taxi model that can pick up passengers and transport them to their destinations.\r\nThe arrival of our Legos was met with great enthusiasm, with one student even bringing in his own Lego creations from home to showcase his creativity. We are ready to create and expand our projects by building more vehicles and scenarios. Thanks to the books received, my reading center has become the most popular. Students can't wait for their turn to go there and enjoy the new books. The Elephant and Piggie (Elefante y Cerdita)books in Spanish have been great. On their own, my students have the amazing idea of getting the same book in English and Spanish and read them with a partner. One student reads in English and the other reads in Spanish. They have very interesting conversations and they are learning about vocabulary because they are figuring out what the words mean in the other language. It is has been magical to see them do this and to see them grow as readers. All the other books have also been received with so much enthusiasm from my students and a lot of them are spending their 10 minutes of free time on Fridays reading books. Last Friday, they had a blast with Chancho de pug and Fly Guy. We will start reading the book El Cucuy and other Spooky legends next week, when we start our unit about legends, folktales and fables.
