In October, I was honored when my project was funded and we received our box of digital cameras. I set to work creating a camera checkout form, setting expectations of whom we could photograph and how to take care of the cameras. We have leadership roles in our Explore SA class, so I designed a role of \"Camera Connoisseur.\" This student set up the cameras, then created organized folders for our trips. When we return for our travels, the students upload photos to a shared drive and then the cameras are wiped so we have ample space to take more pictures. The process continues to improve in efficiency.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the digital cameras consistently for two months when we go into the city on our walking field trips. Since we have four digital cameras for a class of 32, I encourage the students to share the camera in a small group which promotes some great conversations. Using the cameras helps us slow our pace while walking. The cameras encourage us to be more present and look at our environment to notice interesting moments to record. \r\n\r\nRecently, we strolled along the San Pedro Creek and they photographed several native birds. Capturing these peaceful moments helps us engrain the reason we designed this class, to explore our city.
