Instead of just taking regular notes, students are creating foldables, color-coded examples, vocabulary pages, and practice sections that they can return to throughout the year. One specific moment that stood out was when students used their notebooks and supplies to break down a new concept step by step. They were able to cut, glue, write, color-code, and explain their thinking in a way that made the lesson feel more hands-on and easier to understand.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were excited and immediately wanted to know when they would get to use them. Many students were especially excited about having fresh supplies that belonged in our classroom and could be used for their own learning. It helped create a sense of ownership and excitement because they knew these materials were meant to support them. Seeing their reactions reminded me how much even basic classroom supplies can make students feel prepared, valued, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe next step for my students is to continue building their interactive notebooks as a yearlong resource for 5th grade math. As we move through new math concepts, students will add notes, examples, practice problems, models, and reflections that help them track their growth. These notebooks will become a tool they can use during classwork, review, small group instruction, and test preparation. My goal is for students to not only learn math procedures, but also understand their thinking and have a resource they are proud to use throughout the year.","fullyFundedDate":1746785793367,"projectUrl":"project/off-to-the-write-start/9281392/","projectTitle":"Off to the Write Start","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCraw","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8370320_orig.jpg?crop=5760,5760,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659893918680","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/baileymccraw"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_9822","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":402,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":46,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":18,"percentWhite":39,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"16.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":84.8,"schoolId":9822,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Big Springs Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Big Springs Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/richardson-independent-school-district/big-springs-elementary-school/9822"}
