I was so excited to open the desks! The standing desks have been a game changer in my classroom! Students love them!\r\n\r\nStudents working at the standing desks like to use the swing bar. It is a silent fidget that helps them stay on task while expending a little energy. Our school day is longer because we go to school four days a week, so students really enjoy standing for part or all of class. It is a welcome change since they sit the majority of the school day. Students also like the option to stand, especially after lunch and later in the day when they get sleepy. I have observed that students working at the standing desks have been engaged and on task more often than most seated students. I have also had several students request to make a standing desk \"their assigned seat\" because they find standing so helpful. Some have also realized that it has helped them manage some of their academic challenges and have advocated to stand at the desks! That is awesome!\r\n\r\nStudents and teachers alike love the standing desks. When teachers come to my room to meet or collaborate, we find ourselves standing around the desks for the same reasons our students love them!\r\n\r\nI am so grateful for your support. The materials funded through your donations; such as wires, led lights, motors, clay and clay shaping tools, fuzzy green grass stuff (can't remember what it was called, but this seems close enough), gave them the freedom to turn their curiosity into action.\r\n\r\nWatching these young minds at work has been truly inspiring. A few students encountered their current limitations, biting off more than they were prepared. Far from discouraging them, these experiences became valuable lessons in perseverance, adaptability, and the iterative nature of real-world learning as. They learned that struggling is part of discovery, and that seeking help or refining their initial idea is normal and not a disparagement. In one case, it gave a student a deeper understanding of what really was taking place under a plastic controller, while another student realized that if the light is revolving around a motor shaft, then running a power lead to it is problematic. \r\n\r\nOverall, your investment has sparked a genuine curiosity and a willingness to take chances in these gifted middle schoolers.
