One of their favorite activities has been using the building materials to create their own structures and designs. It has been exciting to see them interact with one another and combine their creativity!\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using the STEM items during our Fun Fridays as a reward and in the mornings to start our day on a positive note! My students use it every day during whole-group lessons, morning meetings, read-alouds, and class discussions. Having a comfortable, designated space for us to gather has helped make our classroom feel even more welcoming and connected. One of my favorite moments has been watching my students gather on the rug for a read-aloud and become completely engaged in the story. They love having a special place where we can all learn and participate together.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new rug, they were so excited! They immediately wanted to sit on it and explore it, and they couldn't wait to use it during our lessons. It quickly became one of their favorite spots in the classroom. The rug has helped create a space where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas, listening to one another, and learning as a community.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, my students will keep using our rug as a central part of our classroom learning. We will gather there for upcoming reading and phonics lessons, math activities, morning meetings, and opportunities to share our learning with one another. With a proper, spacious tank, Cedric has a safe and comfortable environment where my students can observe him, learn about his needs, and better understand what it means to care for a living animal. Having Cedric as part of our classroom has sparked curiosity, encouraged students to ask questions, and made science concepts more engaging and hands-on.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, Cedric has helped my students develop empathy, responsibility, and respect for living things. Students have learned that caring for an animal requires patience, consistency, and attention to its needs. They love watching Cedric explore his habitat and noticing changes in his behavior, and these everyday observations often lead to conversations about habitats, nutrition, life cycles, and animal adaptations. I've even had to create a rotation because each one is so eager to try out the new chairs during independent reading time! When they saw the DogMan books, I had students who weren't the biggest fans of independent reading start rushing to the bookshelf to get their hands on it! \r\n\r\nAs an ELA teacher, one of my biggest goals is to spark a love for reading (especially for some of my students who can use it to escape reality). I always try to carve time into my daily lessons to give them some time to read independently, as well as read a chapter of our class read aloud. Because of your donations, it has gotten so much easier! It has given them the ability to be creative and begin learning about coding. \r\n We are working on collaborating in groups to learn the coding/programming process. We created animals for our animal research project using our 3D pen. The kids LOVE using them and they have been used everyday during our independent work time. They get to use them during this time and it has shown me that they can be responsible enough to use the items. We also have specific station time where the kids sit around the room using the seating options, and it creates such a relaxing work environment! \r\n\r\nAs for the chair bands....OH MY GOODNESS!! I have multiple students who are extremely ADHD and fidgety and these bands have been a lifesaver for me. They swing their feet on them, bounce their legs, or just use it as a pressure thing on their ankles. The kids tell me all the time that the bands help them focus better. \r\n\r\nTHANK YOU for taking a chance on us and providing such wonderful additions to my classroom.
