As a school counselor, students come into my office for so many different reasons—sometimes they need help working through a difficult situation, sometimes they need a safe place to calm down and regulate, and sometimes they simply need connection with a trusted adult. The fidgets, coloring supplies, snacks, drinks, and other donated items have helped me create a space where students feel comfortable, cared for, and ready to talk.\r\n\r\nStudents regularly use the fidgets and coloring materials while we talk, especially when they are anxious, overwhelmed, or having difficulty putting their feelings into words. It is amazing how much easier a conversation can become when a student has something to do with their hands. The snacks and drinks have been equally valuable. There are days when a student comes to me upset or struggling in class, and we realize that part of the problem is simply that they are hungry. Being able to offer them something to eat, give them a few minutes to reset, and then help them return to class ready to learn makes an immediate difference.\r\n\r\nThese supplies are used constantly, and students genuinely get excited when they see new things available in my office. Your donations help me build relationships with students, teach coping and self-regulation skills, and make sure they know there is a place at school where they are welcome and supported. As we continue through the school year, these resources will continue to be incorporated into individual counseling, small groups, crisis support, and everyday student check-ins. My job and the impact I am able to have on students would not be the same without this support.
