They could not have completed the activity in our allotted time without having some pre-cut kits of cardboard walls and roofs that student aides had prepared for them using the ChompSaw. Your contributions made a meaningful impact in our classroom, allowing students to engage in hands-on, creative learning experiences that they will remember for years to come.\r\n\r\nThe first group of students to use the Hummingbird kits were my 8th period 8th graders, who are taking a high school-level Computer Science class. With your support, these students combined programming with engineering to build a Robot Mini Golf Course, using recycled materials and craft supplies to bring their ideas to life. For many of the students, this was their first exposure to writing code in Python, one of the most widely used programming languages today. Some students who had never considered engineering before, discovered how fun and rewarding it can be to build and create.\r\n\r\nTo celebrate their work, students invited their families to an early evening Parent Night, where parents and siblings could \"play through the course.\" Each student proudly explained how they and their teammates designed and created the features of their mini-golf hole and programmed the electronics, including two types of servos, various sensors, and two types of LEDs. It was a joy to see the pride and excitement on their faces as they shared their work and discoveries with their families. The event was filled with laughter, learning, and a true sense of accomplishment.\r\n\r\nThroughout the project, students learned perseverance—debugging their code, problem-solving, and experiencing the joy of seeing their designs become reality when everything worked as expected. Many demonstrated incredible creativity, designing their own unique golf holes instead of relying on existing ideas. Others expressed an interest in continuing to learn Python beyond this project. By the end of this school year, all of my students will have the opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of STEM learning with the Hummingbird kits.\r\n\r\nNone of this would have been possible without your generosity. Your support has sparked curiosity, confidence, and excitement about programming and engineering in a new generation of learners. Thank you for investing in our students' education and for helping to create an engaging and inspiring learning experience.\r\n\r\nWith gratitude,\r\n\r\nCecilia Ferrara-Resweber\r\nCele Middle School Pflugerville, Texas","fullyFundedDate":1733751412135,"projectUrl":"project/using-physical-devices-to-develop-progra/8604102/","projectTitle":"Using Physical Devices to Develop Programming and Engineering Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cecilia Ferrara","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9565685"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_105091","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":753,"numTeachers":62,"percentFrplEligible":24,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":33,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":90.0,"schoolId":105091,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cele Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cele Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/pflugerville-independent-school-district/cele-middle-school/105091"}
