We are currently using them to teach students how to identify underlying themes, analyze character arcs, and understand perspective and unreliable narrators. More importantly, these diverse stories are facilitating crucial social-emotional lessons, helping our students build empathy by stepping into the shoes of characters from entirely different backgrounds and life experiences.\r\n\r\nI especially wish you could see the direct impact these books are having on individual students. One student in particular, who has historically been a very reluctant reader and struggled to find stories that held his attention, picked up one of the new adventure novels you funded and finished it in two days. He was so proud of himself that he immediately asked if we had the sequel! Seeing his confidence bloom, along with the sheer excitement of all his classmates as they discover their new favorite authors, is the greatest gift a teacher could ask for.
