We are using the new resources to discreetly provide weekend food bags, essential hygiene items, and nonperishable groceries to families in need. One powerful moment happened when a student quietly shared that their family was able to cook a full Sunday dinner using items from the pantry. Seeing that sense of relief and pride reminded us that this project is about more than food — it is about dignity, stability, and care.\r\n\r\nWhen students first learned about the pantry, their reactions were heartfelt. Many were excited, but more importantly, they felt supported. Some students expressed relief knowing there would be food available outside of school hours. Families have shared gratitude for having a reliable resource they can access without stigma. The pantry has created a culture of compassion within our school, with students even asking how they can help restock and support others.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, we are now able to focus more fully on learning. Our next steps include integrating service-learning opportunities, where students will help organize donation drives and learn about community responsibility as part of a classroom project on civic engagement. We are also continuing lessons focused on goal setting and perseverance, reinforcing that when basic needs are met, academic success becomes more attainable. Your support has strengthened not only our students' access to resources but also their confidence and hope for the future.","fullyFundedDate":1763498725866,"projectUrl":"project/nourishing-success-a-school-food-pantr/9891151/","projectTitle":"Nourishing Success: A School Food Pantry to Support Student Well-being","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Donald","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9810139"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_16549","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":439,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":53,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":76.3,"schoolId":16549,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Dr Joey Pirrung Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Dr Joey Pirrung Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/mesquite-independent-school-district/dr-joey-pirrung-elementary-school/16549"}
