The notebook binding machine you provided has become an essential tool in our daily pursuit of understanding the human mind.\r\n\r\n While we often think of \"technology\" as screens and software, this tactile engineering—the binding system—serves a vital cognitive purpose. In the fast-paced AP curriculum, students are bombarded with complex diagrams of the brain and intricate psychological theories. By physically constructing their own comprehensive study guides, students are engaging in encoding, a key psychological concept we study. The technology allows them to move from passive consumers of information to active creators of their own academic archives.\r\n\r\n What excites the students most is the tangible quality of the final product. There is a visible shift in their body language when they transition from holding a messy folder to a sleek, bound manual. It gives their hard work a sense of permanence and professional pride. They aren't just \"doing schoolwork\" anymore; they are compiling a personal encyclopedia of human behavior that they actually want to keep on their bookshelves.\r\n\r\n This has been a game-changer for my students who struggle with executive functioning and organization. One student in particular, who previously struggled to keep track of key unit reviews, told me that having a bound \"anchor\" for the class has significantly lowered their testing anxiety. Seeing their progress grow page-by-page has provided a massive boost in confidence.\r\n\r\n Thank you for investing in these students and providing the physical structure they need to succeed on their AP exams and beyond.","fullyFundedDate":1772603503615,"projectUrl":"project/ap-psychology-workbooks-for-ap-success/10128478/","projectTitle":"AP Psychology Workbooks for AP Success!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Montoya","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8415339_orig.png?crop=2048,2048,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1743443863706","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8415339"},{"teacherId":4462583,"projectId":9588315,"letterContent":"On behalf of my students and our entire classroom community, thank you for your incredibly generous $1,500 donation through DonorsChoose. Because of Texas Gas Service, we were able to purchase 3D printers that are transforming the way our students learn, create, and problem-solve.\r\n\r\nMany people use technology at home, but what makes this technology special is how it's being used in our classroom. These 3D printers are not just tools — they are bridges between imagination and real-world application. Instead of only sketching ideas on paper or designing digitally, students can now prototype, test, revise, and physically hold their creations. They are learning engineering design processes, measurement, geometry, problem-solving, coding integration, and critical thinking — all while collaborating and thinking like real-world innovators.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is seeing their ideas come to life layer by layer. Watching a design print in real time is powerful. It turns abstract concepts into tangible results. Students light up when they realize that something they imagined on a screen can become a physical object they can test and improve. That moment builds confidence in a way worksheets never could.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled to stay engaged have especially warmed to this new technology. Some who may not see themselves as \"traditional learners\" have found their strengths in design, troubleshooting, and iteration. One student who rarely spoke up in class now eagerly shares design improvements and helps peers adjust their models. The 3D printers have created a space where creativity and technical thinking are equally valued.\r\n\r\nThis project has had a direct impact on student learning. We are now able to incorporate hands-on engineering challenges, real-world problem-solving tasks, and rapid prototyping into lessons. Instead of simply learning about concepts, students are applying them. They test structural strength, adjust dimensions, refine mechanisms, and analyze why a print failed — and then try again. That resilience and iterative mindset is one of the greatest outcomes of this project.","fullyFundedDate":1761967927890,"projectUrl":"project/printing-the-future-empowering-young-en/9588315/","projectTitle":"Printing the Future: Empowering Young Engineers with 3D Design","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Saldana","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4462583_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1495124549784","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mchidogworks"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_11385","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2152,"numTeachers":174,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":92,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":77.4,"schoolId":11385,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about McAllen High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"McAllen High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/mcallen-independent-school-district/mcallen-high-school/11385"}
