The variety of topics gives every student something to connect with, and the real-life stories have sparked some incredible classroom discussions.\r\n\r\nOne particularly meaningful article shared the story of a family of firefighters connected to September 11th. This heartfelt story truly captured my students' attention and helped them develop a deeper understanding of the events of 9/11 through the experiences of real people. It opened the door for thoughtful conversations, empathy, and connections between what we read and the world around us.\r\n\r\nThese magazines have also allowed us to strengthen essential reading skills, including making inferences, identifying author's purpose, analyzing text evidence, and making meaningful text-to-world connections. My students aren't simply reading articles and answering questions. They are asking questions, sharing opinions, discussing new discoveries, and thinking critically about what they read.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, there is nothing more rewarding than watching students become genuinely excited about reading. These magazines remind my students that reading isn't just something we do in school. It is a way to discover new things, explore our passions, and better understand the world around us.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me create meaningful reading experiences that inspire curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and help my students grow into lifelong readers!","fullyFundedDate":1784821789395,"projectUrl":"project/connecting-our-rural-students-to-the-wor/10387625/","projectTitle":"Connecting Our Rural Students to the World","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Whittaker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10555616_orig.jpg?crop=768,768,x0,y128&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1784473472964","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10555616"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_13635","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":582,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":43,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":49,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":2,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.3,"schoolId":13635,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Colt Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Colt Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/marble-falls-independent-school-district/colt-elementary-school/13635"}
