We have started our book club, and it has been exciting to see students come together over a shared book. Having multiple copies of the same title allows students to read alongside their classmates and participate in meaningful conversations about what they are reading.\r\n\r\nThrough our book club, students are practicing important fifth-grade reading skills such as making inferences, analyzing characters and their motivations, identifying theme, and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text. They are also learning that reading can be social! Students have opportunities to ask questions, share predictions and opinions, make connections, and listen to different perspectives from their classmates.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is about more than simply completing an assignment. I want my students to see themselves as readers and discover books they genuinely enjoy. Our book club has given students a different way to experience reading—one that feels more like being part of a community than completing another classroom task. I especially love seeing students who may not normally be eager to pick up a book become more engaged because they know they will get to talk about it with their friends.\r\n\r\nWe are still early in our book club journey, but the excitement and conversations these new books have already created have been wonderful to see. I am looking forward to watching my students continue to grow in their reading skills, confidence, and love of books.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving my students this opportunity and for helping us create a community of readers in our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1778015181763,"projectUrl":"project/cracking-the-case-a-5th-grade-mystery-b/10225992/","projectTitle":"Cracking the Case: A 5th Grade Mystery Book Club","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Watts","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10485851_orig.jpg?crop=1142,1142,x1884,y2170&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1777089505338","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10485851"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132424","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":682,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":85,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":31,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":44,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":0.0,"schoolId":132424,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Adriane Mathews Gray Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Adriane Mathews Gray Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/lamar-consolidated-independent-school-district/adriane-mathews-gray-elementary-school/132424"}
