The moment I introduced the new materials, their eyes lit up—several students immediately grabbed books that connected to their lives and began sharing vocabulary with each other. One of my shyest English learners, who rarely speaks during whole group lessons, proudly read a page aloud using the picture cues. That single moment showed me how powerful these resources are.\r\n\r\nWe are now using the literacy cards during small-group rotations to build vocabulary, phonics skills, and sentence structure. My students love using the cards to play partner games like \"Match & Read,\" turning practice into something joyful instead of intimidating. These tools are especially helping my beginning ELLs participate more confidently and independently. The bilingual books have also become a staple in our daily reading routine, and students are eagerly taking them to their book bins as favorites.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're working on a class nonfiction project where students will use the vocabulary cards and mentor texts to write short informational booklets. These resources are giving them the foundation they need to take risks, build fluency, and see themselves as readers and writers. Your support opened the door to opportunities that will continue to strengthen their language development all year long. Thank you for believing in my students and in the power of literacy.","fullyFundedDate":1753641371222,"projectUrl":"project/building-foundations-books-and-cards-fo/9217425/","projectTitle":"Building Foundations: Books and Cards for ELL Literacy Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Elizondo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9583041"},{"teacherId":9583041,"projectId":8803166,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation! These new books are making a wonderful impact in my classroom. They are helping my students develop essential skills such as reading comprehension, critical thinking, and vocabulary expansion. Many of the books also introduce valuable lessons on empathy, perseverance, and cultural awareness, which are crucial for their personal and academic growth.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an interactive and engaging experience. Students have access to a variety of texts during independent reading time, small group discussions, and partner reading activities. We also incorporate read-alouds and student-led book talks to spark conversations and deepen their understanding.\r\n\r\nSeveral students are especially excited about the new books! I've noticed some reluctant readers becoming more engaged and eager to pick up a book during independent reading time. One student in particular, who previously struggled to find books that interested them, has been captivated by one of the new additions and is now reading more confidently.
