My 2nd graders have been exploring math, engineering, and creativity in brand new ways with our hexagon puzzle set and magnetic blocks. One of my favorite moments happened during an inside recess when a group of students gathered around the wooden puzzles and worked together to figure out how the pieces fit together. They proudly presented their solutions and have even built their own designs outside of the wooden case. I also love how creative they get with the magnetic blocks during our STEM bin time and seeing their mind at work. This was exactly the kind of hands-on learning I hoped for!\r\n\r\nThe day our new materials arrived felt like an early Christmas for my students. They were all so excited when they saw the bean bag chair, which is now the most popular reading spot in the room, and always light up when they see the birthday favors they get on their special day. Even the simple items have made a big difference! The whiteboard erasers have already been well-loved and are the only type of eraser that hasn't left stains on the whiteboard. Also, the stapler has been a game changer for stapling packets together and prepping for future lessons. It has saved me a lot of precious preparation time!\r\n\r\nThanks to you, our classroom feels more creative, comfortable, and empowered. We have started learning about two-dimensional shapes so these creative tools have been great to reinforce what I am teaching in class. There were so many other items in our package that have been great for classroom decor, content display, and student development. Your donation has brought renewed energy to me and new possibilities for my students. When utilizing my classroom library to fill book bins, I challenge those that are able or close to being so to choose a chapter book. For some students, this challenge introduces new vocabulary or text structure. For others, it provides more understanding to comprehending text. Rather than being able to look at pictures to understand, they are forced to create that mental image.\r\nWe utilize this gift in many ways. Like previously stated, to fill book bins. At the end of every week I allow my students to trade out books in my classroom library. Giving them the opportunity to pick their own books, allows them to find their love of reading within the things that they like. For my students that are soaring at those higher reading levels, they are given the opportunity to borrow these books and take them home. Along with the book, they have a Comprehension Journal. Before taking their book home, I provide a series of questions about the text that they are reading to challenge them to truly indulge themselves into what they are reading. \r\nThank you so much for providing this tool to my classroom library and to my students learning.
