When utilizing my classroom library to fill book bins, I challenge those that are able or close to being so to choose a chapter book. For some students, this challenge introduces new vocabulary or text structure. For others, it provides more understanding to comprehending text. Rather than being able to look at pictures to understand, they are forced to create that mental image.\r\nWe utilize this gift in many ways. Like previously stated, to fill book bins. At the end of every week I allow my students to trade out books in my classroom library. Giving them the opportunity to pick their own books, allows them to find their love of reading within the things that they like. For my students that are soaring at those higher reading levels, they are given the opportunity to borrow these books and take them home. Along with the book, they have a Comprehension Journal. Before taking their book home, I provide a series of questions about the text that they are reading to challenge them to truly indulge themselves into what they are reading. \r\nThank you so much for providing this tool to my classroom library and to my students learning. The flexible seating allows my students to be able to spread out all over the classroom and still be able to work on their independent work that is comfortable for them.
