Seeing them arrive was a moment of pure excitement. The soccer balls have been great for small-sided games and skill practice during recess; children who normally sit out have jumped into play, practicing dribbling, passing, and shooting in a safe, friendly setting. The kickball sessions have been especially popular, too — groups form quickly, assigning positions and cheering each other on. Kickball gives students a chance to practice teamwork, turn-taking, and following rules while also building stamina and coordination. The balls are durable and easy for the kids to handle, which makes the games flow smoothly and keeps more students engaged throughout the recess period.\r\nVolleyball-style play has also begun to emerge with the new equipment; even without a full net. Students use the frisbees and hoops to invent adapted versions of the game that focus on striking, catching, and cooperative rallies. The frisbees inspire creative games that combine aiming, timing, and spatial awareness — children work together to throw and catch, learning to judge distance and to communicate with one another. Some of the other balls have been used to enjoy our new Gaga Ball pit.\r\n\r\nThe cooperative play we're witnessing helps reinforce empathy, patience, and a sense of classroom community that carries into academic time as well. The increased physical activity has positive effects on classroom behavior and focus, too. After active recess sessions with balls, frisbees, and hoops, students return to class more ready to concentrate, and transitions go more smoothly. The equipment's durability and suitability for outdoor use mean we can rely on it for regular recess play without constant replacement, which is important for planning consistent opportunities for movement. \r\n\r\nI also appreciate how the equipment supports differentiated participation. Not every student wants to play competitive games, so the variety allows children to select activities that match their interests: some prefer the teamwork and strategy of soccer or kickball, others enjoy the skill-building and rhythm of volleyball-like rallies, and still others find joy in inventive frisbee games or hoop challenges. This variety ensures that recess is a welcoming space where different strengths and preferences are honored.\r\nYour generosity has had a visible, immediate impact on our daily school life. The gift of balls, frisbees, and hoops has enriched our recess environment by promoting physical health, social skills, creativity, and overall student well-being. Thank you for supporting our fourth graders and for helping create more joyful, active, and inclusive playtimes — your kindness has made a real difference in their school days.","fullyFundedDate":1766513054618,"projectUrl":"project/playground-equipment-for-4th-grade/9969218/","projectTitle":"Playground Equipment for 4th Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mays","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9908366"},{"teacherId":9779144,"projectId":9243623,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom library bookshelf! Your support has transformed our learning space in ways I see every single day.\r\n\r\nSince the bookshelf arrived, our classroom has become noticeably more inviting and organized. Students now have easy access to our class books displayed at eye level, and I've watched their reading habits shift dramatically. What strikes me most is how the visible, accessible collection has made reading feel less like an assignment and more like an invitation. Students browse during transitions, recommend titles to each other, and actually want to check out books to take home. The bookshelf has become the heart of our classroom—a quiet reminder that stories and learning are treasured here.\r\n\r\nWhen we first set up the bookshelf and organized our collection, students were genuinely excited. Now our classroom feels calmer, more intentional, and absolutely more like a reader's haven.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, I'm planning to involve students in curating our collection and rotating seasonal selections. Your support will help make a real difference in our school. We are currently using the stuffed animals to check out to students who are achieving well, and the spinners will be rewards for students earning high campus points for academic and behavioral excellence on our campus. The impact has been immediate and meaningful. Just last week, my students completed an end-of-unit assessment, and the new materials transformed how they approached preparing for the work. For example, students contributed to class study and review at a high level. Seeing their faces light up as they engaged with the resources reminded me why this project mattered so much.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're building on this momentum. Our next steps include rewarding students with motivators as they earn them for academic contributions and excellent behavior on campus. In addition, the snacks provided have fueled and nourished my students who are unable to bring a snack from home.\r\n\r\nMany of our dry-erase markers were drying out. Because of your donation of LED color-changing lamps and hexagon backdrop frames, we are already seeing a measurable boost in student motivation, pride, and positive behavior. We use the lamps and hexagon frames to transform our cafeteria into a house-themed zone when a house earns top points for the month; the visual change makes celebrations feel special, memorable, and student-centered. Students gather around the themed area to take photos, cheer for peers, and connect across grade levels, creating shared moments that build relationships and a stronger sense of belonging.\r\n\r\nThe energized environment helps students feel hyped and ready for active participation in class and extracurriculars. Teachers have reported higher attendance at house events and more enthusiasm during competitions, and recognizing houses with a visible, festive zone encourages students to demonstrate teamwork, responsibility, and respect as they strive to earn points. Last month, when Green House held the top spot, students lined the hallways to enter the transformed cafeteria. The lamps cast their house color across the room and the hexagon backdrop became a photo spot for families and students. One teacher noticed quieter transitions and more cooperative teamwork in the following week as students wanted to keep the positive momentum going.\r\n\r\nWith these items in place, we plan to rotate themed displays monthly to keep excitement high, use the backdrop frames for student showcases and award photos, and expand student-led decorations and announcements so houses take ownership of their celebrations. Small movements allowed by the stools help kinesthetic learners stay engaged during independent work and whole-group instruction, which has led to smoother transitions and fewer disruptions throughout the day.\r\nBeyond academics, the wobble stools have improved classroom inclusivity and confidence. Students who felt restless or self-conscious about sitting still now participate more willingly and take greater ownership of their learning spaces. I've seen increases in on-task behavior, collaboration during group activities, and overall enthusiasm for school. Both *Holes* and *Tuck Everlasting* offer strong opportunities for teaching literary skills as well as social-emotional themes. *Holes* introduces students to layered narrative structures through its interwoven past and present, while also engaging them in mystery, inference, and the use of symbolism (such as holes, the desert, and the warden's actions) to reveal character and theme. On the other hand, *Tuck Everlasting* supports lessons in theme development, exploring topics like mortality, choice, and the nature of immortality. It also provides opportunities for close reading focused on character motivation and the author's craft regarding pacing and mood. Together, these books enable teachers to practice skills such as making text-based inferences, citing evidence for claims, comparing and contrasting perspectives, analyzing how plot events shape characters, and writing thematic essays that synthesize textual details.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is an active, social, and scaffolded experience. We combine read-alouds, guided small groups, and independent reading. During whole-group or guided sessions, I model think-alouds that demonstrate inference and annotation. Students then practice these strategies in literature circles, where each role (discussion leader, connector, summarizer, vocabulary decoder) focuses on a specific skill. We conduct short, focused mini-lessons on close-reading techniques—such as annotating for evidence, tracking character changes, and identifying figurative language—followed by quick formative checks, including exit slips, brief evidence-based responses, or peer-led discussions. Writing tasks are closely linked to reading and include short constructed responses, text-dependent analyses, and creative options (like alternate endings or diary entries) that require students to ground their ideas in the text.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have already gravitated toward these books for various reasons. Readers who enjoy mystery and dark humor are drawn to *Holes*; they engage enthusiastically with prediction, plot mapping, and tracing cause-and-effect across timelines. Meanwhile, students who prefer reflective, character-driven stories are captivated by *Tuck Everlasting*, particularly the ethical questions it raises, which spark thoughtful journaling and Socratic-style conversations about choice and consequences. Reluctant readers benefit from both titles, as they are plot-driven with accessible language. Pairing these students with strong peer readers in literature circles has increased their confidence, fluency, and willingness to tackle text-dependent writing.","fullyFundedDate":1756995216621,"projectUrl":"project/gt-book-club/9637101/","projectTitle":"GT Book Club","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Martin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp399546_orig.jpg?crop=1776,1776,x0,y302&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1720472468103","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/marian-martin"},{"teacherId":4237881,"projectId":9334395,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity and thoughtfulness!
