We are reading these books in book clubs. I teacher all kinds of fiction skills to my 6th grades, including: plot, theme, author's purpose, setting, and so much more. I, as a professional, feel that a book in every child's hands impacts reading skills more than simply one person holding a book and reading to the group. When they read together, everyone can follow along as they go through the book. Not only does this improve decoding and fluency skills, but it also helps with grammar skills. This also allows for kids to be exposed to texts more challenging than what they will normally go for. This kind of high expectation really pushes kids to be stronger readers. \r\n\r\nIn my classroom, you see kids sitting in small groups all over the floor. I am a firm believer that getting confortable while reading helps them get more into the book. So, I let my groups pick a spot in the room while they read. You hear kids engaged and reading all over. \r\n\r\nI have noticed that the books I have chosen this year has every single student (low, medium, and high) are 100% engaged in their reading. We began with a book tasting and a research project diving into either the historical context or the author of the novel we chose. I think this helped peak their interest and helped them understand the \"why\" behind the book. It's fantastic to see! I have not had one single students (out of 62) say they are bored by the book they chose. They are so into it! Thank you, again, so much!","fullyFundedDate":1772425994113,"projectUrl":"project/fiction-book-clubs/10122704/","projectTitle":"Fiction Book Clubs","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bailey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10443170_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1772152463003","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10443170"},{"teacherId":10379551,"projectId":9952378,"letterContent":"Thank you soo much for donating to my class project. I have already started to see the impact this has had on my students.\r\n We recently studied different types of organisms, including the ever popular Tardigrade. My students were absolutely enthralled by the article about students searching for Tardigrades in Norway. A lot of the kids who were quoted in the article were not that much older than my students, and I feel like this really opened my students eyes. They especially loved the accompanying video of the Tardigrade moving around it's environment. This is something that typically would not be possible for them to see with the level of microscope our school currently has. \r\nOnce again my student and I truly appreciate the donation you put towards enriching our classroom and encouraging literacy in science.","fullyFundedDate":1765336408891,"projectUrl":"project/promote-literacy-in-my-science-lab/9952378/","projectTitle":"Promote Literacy in My Science Lab!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hensley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10379551_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y401&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1765561689659","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10379551"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_10438","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1500,"numTeachers":78,"percentFrplEligible":33,"percentAsian":24,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":31,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"19.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.9,"schoolId":10438,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Cinco Ranch Junior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Cinco Ranch Junior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/katy-independent-school-district/cinco-ranch-junior-high-school/10438"}
