Many of my students are nonverbal and learn best through hands-on, visual, and sensory experiences. The Pete the Cat books have been especially loved by my students because some of the books include touch-and-feel elements that make reading more interactive and engaging for them.\r\n\r\nThrough these books, my students have been introduced to important early literacy skills such as identifying the front cover, back cover, and spine of a book, learning how to handle books appropriately, and understanding that we read by moving through the pages from beginning to end. They also enjoy looking closely at the pictures, which helps them build vocabulary, comprehension, and connections to the story.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading looks different for every student. Some students listen to the story while looking at the pictures, while others actively explore the book through touching, pointing, turning pages, and interacting with sensory features. Turning the pages has also been a wonderful opportunity to work on fine motor skills, hand coordination, and independence.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping provide books that make reading accessible, engaging, and meaningful for all of my students.
