I specifically chose Mahjong because I wanted something that most students wouldn't already know how to play. That way nobody would feel left out for not understanding and they would have to work together.\r\nAt first, the students were skeptical. There were at least two per group who seemed a little excited about learning a new game, but most of them were genuinely confused by all of the tiles and the Chinese characters on them. I displayed a list of the tile meanings at the front of the room so that students could refer back to it as needed.\r\nI let each group have the instructions that came with the game and one chromebook so that they could research as a group.\r\nAfter a few minutes of procrastinating, the group leaders in every group started getting everyone to focus on figuring out the game. There were a few groups throughout the day who needed a little help and clarification, but most of the groups figured it out on their own with a little help from YouTube and played the game.\r\nOverall, it went really well. The students had a sense of accomplishment for having figured out a game that was completely foreign to them (and not even in English), and they got to a point where they were comfortable enough with playing that they were able to be competetive with each other.\r\nThere were quite a few students who had never worked together on anything, and this helped get them more comfortable with doing that. This was an amazing project, and the students have already been asking to play again.","fullyFundedDate":1758210187844,"projectUrl":"project/problem-solving-with-mahjong/9638084/","projectTitle":"Problem Solving with Mahjong","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Spiller","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10213444"},{"teacherId":9931578,"projectId":9131874,"letterContent":"I would like to thank you again for the positive impact your donations made on my students. This year has a different challenge with students not being able to use their own personal devices in the classroom. Without enough chrome books for every student we have to get very creative to ensure all students are being provided with quality instruction. Now we are able to increase the class set of chrome books with the new chargers and still lend some out for students that are less fortunate. These chargers are helping students inside and outside of the classroom on a greater spectrum that it wasn't originally intended for. One of my students came to me after class because her homework assignment was electronic. When she came to me concerned that she wouldn't be able to finish it because she couldn't use her phone at home. I was able to lend her a chrome book with a charger and brighten up her day. She was very grateful and surprised because she didn't even know that was an option. Since then she has given me many updates on how having the ability to complete assignments at home has positively affected her even in her other classes.","fullyFundedDate":1746500142799,"projectUrl":"project/keep-learning-powered-on-chromebook-cha/9131874/","projectTitle":"Keep Learning Powered On: Chromebook Chargers Needed!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Street","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9931578_orig.jpg?crop=1472,1472,x0,y93&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740580191384","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9931578"},{"teacherId":9931578,"projectId":9131149,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donations and the positive impact it has made in my Algebra 2 classroom. Recently the state law changed and students are no longer allowed to use their personal communication devices during the school day. While this is a positive adjustment it is also a challenging adjustment. My campus doesn't currently have a device for every student, in the past they allowed students to use their personal devices to rectify this situation. Since this is no longer an option, as teachers we need to be able to pivot at a moment's notice. Majority of the time I am able to just print out the assignment on paper, but of course this is easier said then done if you don't have immediate access to a printer. The printer that was purchased with your donations has already saved the \"learning\" day more times than I can count and we are barely in Week 4. It has also increased student's performance in the classroom since Day 1! Students are able to take advantage of the same opportunities as ALL students and know that there are people out there that care about their education and make investments.","fullyFundedDate":1746699654726,"projectUrl":"project/printed-for-success-helping-students-ov/9131149/","projectTitle":"Printed for Success: Helping Students Overcome Digital Barriers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Street","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9931578_orig.jpg?crop=1472,1472,x0,y93&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1740580191384","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9931578"},{"teacherId":270631,"projectId":9274740,"letterContent":"The last project for my seniors is to create a memorable keepsake senior portfolio with poems reflecting each stage of their educational years, and decorate it. Watching students collaborate to design their own boards, career cards, and event spaces was incredible; they were fully engaged, laughing, problem-solving, and making real-world connections through play.\r\n\r\nOne memorable moment was when a group proudly presented their finished board and explained how every career path included unexpected life twists they invented themselves—it sparked great classroom discussions about financial responsibility and personal goals.
