You have given my students something truly special the opportunity to discover the joy of reading in both languages.\r\n\r\nAs a second grade dual-language teacher, one of my greatest joys is watching my students grow as readers. These new books are helping them develop important literacy skills in both English and Spanish. Students can identify characters and settings, retell stories in the correct order, recognize the main idea, and answer questions using details from the text. They are also learning to make predictions, use pictures and context clues to understand unfamiliar words, and compare vocabulary in English and Spanish. For example, students can recognize cognates such as animal/animal and family/familia, helping them make connections between the two languages. These skills strengthen their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence as bilingual learners.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite things to see is how excited my students are to pick up a book during their free time. Whether they have finished their assignments early or need to remain quiet during testing days, they eagerly reach for our bilingual books. Instead of seeing quiet reading time as something they have to do, they now see it as something they get to do! Watching them become so engaged in stories they can understand and genuinely enjoy has been incredibly rewarding. These books are especially meaningful for students who are still building confidence in one of their languages. Having access to stories in both English and Spanish allows them to connect familiar words to new vocabulary, practice reading independently, and understand stories without feeling discouraged. It is wonderful to see students excited about choosing books that interest them rather than simply reading because it is an assignment.\r\n\r\nYou did so much more than restock our classroom library. You helped fill our classroom with curiosity, excitement, confidence, and a growing love for reading.
