My students engaged with the Amira (Reading) and Zearn (Math) programs for a total of 120 minutes each week. While I conducted small group sessions with several students to address specific skills, others utilized the computers to enhance their literacy and math abilities. Students with gaps in foundational reading skills were able to improve significantly, as the computer programs provided pronunciation support for letter sounds and offered stories read to them. Additionally, while learning math through the Zearn program, they could interact with the screen and manipulate place value blocks, helping them understand concepts more effectively.\r\nEvery Friday, we have what we refer to as \"Fantastech Friday.\" On this day, the technology teacher comes into my classroom to work with the students. The students learn about the different parts of a computer and their functions. They also explore word processing and practice typing short paragraphs in Word, a skill they will use in high school, college, and the working world. The students are very excited about using computers, as highlighted by a parent who messaged me to share that their child talked enthusiastically about what they learned from the technology teacher, including how the computer read stories to them. Every day, my students eagerly await my announcement that it is time for technology!\r\nI am even more ecstatic for my students as I watch them cultivate their love for learning through computers. I will continue to do what is best for my students and my school community. I know the future is bright, especially with the rapid evolution of technology. I sincerely appreciate your support for my students, as your contributions have made and will continue to make a significant difference in their learning and future.","fullyFundedDate":1730301977375,"projectUrl":"project/technology-builds-literacy/8521668/","projectTitle":"Technology Builds Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sutherland-Wright","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4917119_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1508466887791","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4917119"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17914","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":434,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":94,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.9,"schoolId":17914,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Durkee Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Durkee Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/houston-independent-school-district/durkee-elementary-school/17914"}
